Copenhagen Dive Show 2007 Video
Wetpixel user skawdiver has posted a nice, 3-minute video summary of the Copenhagen Dive Show 2007, which features (among others) Alex Mustard on stage. The video gave me a good sense of what the show was like, despite the fact that I don’t understand Danish.
If there is enough demand, skawdiver might be able to be convinced to post Alex’s entire speech (which is, thankfully, a version of English that I understand). :)
Wetpixel and Divester readers receive adoption papers for Cut-Tail
We previously reported that Wetpixel and Divester readers, with the proceeds of the t-shirt purchases, had adopted Cut-Tail, a 16-foot great white shark. The Shark Trust recently sent us Cut-Tail’s adoption papers, making all of us official ‘parents’ of this distinctive ocean inhabitant.
If anyone has the harrowing experience of encountering Cut-Tail (or any other great white shark) underwater at the Farallon Islands in California, be sure to let us know…
Surface: Tim Calver’s exhibit in Miami, Feb 3-28, 2007
Photographer and friend Tim Calver will be showing his work at the MCPA (Miami Center for the Photographic Arts) this coming February 3-28, 2007. Please join Tim at the opening of this show, “Surface”, between 6-9PM on Saturday, February 3rd.
Tim is a freelance photographer whose career takes him wherever water ebbs and flows. Each photograph in the exhibit was taken while freediving. The images explore the relationship of breath and water, the meeting of ocean and air, and the results are as much about the color, shape, and feel of water as they are about the things that live beneath its surface.

New York Underwater Photo Society established
Inhabitants of New York interested in underwater photography have a new way to share their passion, the New York Underwater Photo Society (NYUPS). The society is open to individuals of all skill levels, from novice to professional, as well as those who live outside the region, and plans to have speakers featured monthly, with workshops and photo & video contests.

Last call for British Underwater Image Festival 2007 entries
January 31, 2007 is the deadline for entries to be received for the 2007 British Underwater Image Festival. The winners of the festival are presented on March 16-18 at the Birmingham NEC as part of the Go Diving! show. Prizes include Suunto dive computers, Sea & Sea strobes, regulators, and additional digital cameras and accessories. Best of all, entry is free, and open to all photographers and videographers!

The ‘best’ hard drive storage device?
Wetpixel member Mark Hardy has started a discussion about the ‘best’ hard drive storage device, where he compares the Jobo Giga Vu Pro Evolution and the Epson P-5000 after a short time with both of the units.
Mark says: “The Epson generally does everything as fast, if not faster than the Jobo…both units have an 80GB drive and cost virtually the same here in Hong Kong. I have to return the Jobo during my lunch break tomorrow - I will not be returning the Epson!”

Of course, I wasn’t copied in on the real email, so I’m forced to imagine the exchange that must’ve occurred between Nick Hanna, diving journalist magnifique, and Alex Mustard, underwater shooter extraordinaire (and Wetpixel co-administrator). However, I’m guessing it went down something like that. Whatever Hanna wrote in his email to Mustard, Mustard said yes, Hanna was pleased, and the result of their collaboration was tremendous: from the endless creative juices of these two aesthetes came the magnificent book, The Art of Diving. Never before has a book about scuba diving been so beautiful, so literate, and so spot on.
