Retra has announced updated versions of their Pro and Prime flashes. Pro X and Prime X flashes have a 25% increase in recycle time and 20% battery efficiency improvement, along with a weight decrease, the option of mounting an opto-electrical converter directly to the flash, and a dedicated HSS mode switch. UW Technics has announced updated firmware for their Nauticam mounted Sony TTL converters, that supports the Retra Pro flash. It can be controlled via either the camera’s menu, or the flash’s controls. It also supports Retra’s high-speed sync option.
Retra’s new underwater flash starts shipping to pre-order customers at the end of this week. Alex Mustard and friends share their thoughts and images after extensive testing of the strobe in Egypt, Cayman and Cuba. Alex notes that: “The Retra Flash is big news: a brand new strobe and a new manufacturer joining the underwater strobe market are rare events indeed.”
